In Memoriam: Edith Shrensky Glock

1927 – 2021

The community mourns the passing of Edith Shrensky Glock, 94, a longtime community leader, educator and dedicated professional and volunteer for many decades at the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, who died on Dec. 30.

JCFR CEO Daniel Staffenberg noted, “Edith was a force, spending decades making an impact as a professional and volunteer for the Federation, JCC and numerous other organizations throughout Richmond. Edith exemplified the qualities of an Eshet Chayil, a woman of valor. She was quick with a smile, strong and dedicated to community, professional and kind to all.”

Anyone who spent any time within the Federation during her 32-year tenure knew and loved her from the JCFR professionals to board members and hundreds and hundreds of community members. During that time she managed the Federation’s community calendar as well as the community database, worked on the Reflector and welcomed all with her beautiful smile and joyous personality.

Countless Hours Volunteering

Edith was an active member and spent countless hours volunteering at many Jewish organizations including  president of the Jewish Women’s Club, vice-president of programming for Hadassah, serving as a board member for Temple Beth-El’s sisterhood, as well as for the Weinstein JCC, Congregation Kol Emes, Rudlin Torah Academy and Jewish Women International.

She was recognized for her many contributions and was honored as the Golda Meir/Women of Valor recipient, Sophie Stahl Memorial recipient and was honored with Rudlin Torah Academy’s Chesed Award along with her husband, Dr. Eugene Glock (OBM).

Many people offered online reflections at her Virtual service. The following are some of these:

May her family find comfort in the knowledge that so many share their loss and that she will live in the memory of a grateful community.

Memorial contributions may be made to Temple Beth-El or the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.
