Or Atid Happenings for February

Several Girl Scouts take time out to pose for a photo as they build garden boxes for the Kindness Garden at Or Atid.

Or Atid students in the Helen and Sam Kornblau Religious School are having a fun, productive year.  Older students have assisted the younger ones with interactive learning such as involving them in a Hebrew letter scavenger hunt throughout the building.

The students have been learning about Mitzvahs and created posters that were hung outside the classroom as reminders of specific mitzvahs.

The teenagers in Machon have had meaningful discussions led by Rabbi Hal on topics such as “why do bad things happen to good people.”  Through the exploration of Bible stories, prayers of the Siddur, and modern philosophy and theology, the students struggled with this complicated reality.

The Gan Chesed Kindness Garden is making progress

Work has begun to develop the universally accessible sensory-based outdoor play area, the Jewish-themed garden, and the Holocaust memorial garden.

In January, Or Atid partnered with a Girl Scout troop that did a terrific job constructing standing garden boxes to prepare for the spring planting season.

As the weather improves in the coming weeks, additional elements will be added to the garden.

Book Club

The Or Atid ladies book club continues to meet virtually and enjoys spending time together.   On Feb. 23, the group will discuss Not Our Kind by Kitty Zeldas, a thought-provoking novel set in postwar New York City, about two women—one Jewish, one Christian – and the wholly unexpected consequences of their meeting.
