Joint Book and Health Program set for March 21

Hadassah Richmond’s Health Program has been rescheduled and now will be combined with our Book Group program for a fascinating evening of information and discussion on March 21, 7 p.m.

Our book selection is The Book of Two Ways by the #1 New York Times bestselling author Jodi Picoult. The novel is a riveting story about the choices that change the course of our lives.

In the book, everything changes in a single moment for Dawn Edelstein. She’s on a plane when the flight attendant makes an announcement: “prepare for a crash landing …”

After the flight, Dawn must confront the questions she’s never truly asked: What does a life well-lived look like? When we leave this earth, what do we leave behind? Do we make choices … or do our choices make us? And who would you be, if you hadn’t turned out to be the person you are right now?

Joining this discussion will be guest speaker, Shelby Kirillin, an End-of-Life Doula here in Richmond. Shelby is the founder and president of “A Peaceful Passing.”

Along with being an ICU nurse for over 20 years, she is trained and certified by INELDA (the International End of Life Doula Association) and has been a practicing end of life coach/doula for five years.

In 2017 she became an instructor for INELDA where she travels around the country training others to be doulas.

Shelby believes that dying isn’t a medical experience, but rather a sacred and special time in our lives that should be treated with such care.

With the right preparation and open communication, she believes that dying can, and should be, a beautiful ending to the wonderful chapters we write.
