The Richmond Jewish community came together on Thursday, Aug. 18, for Jewish Community Night at the Diamond. Well over 100 attended — families, couples and community members of all ages turned out. Many wore special game-night T-shirts given out by the Federation.
Federation CEO Daniel Staffenberg noted, “This event, organized by our Federation, is one of my favorite things we do. The power of community is palpable as every Jewish agency, synagogue, and community member comes together to enjoy a ball game. This year we even had Kosher food! Thank you to the Flying Squirrels for making it all happen.”
He continued, “What stood out for me most? A picture of a father and daughter (see at the top) enjoying the game, smiles across their faces. In a sea of faces, their joy stood out. Just six months earlier, they were in Ukraine – scared, uncertain, and fleeing from bombs and destruction. Today, thanks to your support, and the infrastructure sustained by our Federation’s Annual Campaign, they are in Richmond. They are members of our Jewish RVA Community, attended Weinstein JCC Summer Camp, and are students at Rudlin Torah Academy and the JCC preschool. We were there for them as we are there for all of Ukraine and Jews around the world.”
