Congregants hold the Torah around the sanctuary.

Between fall holidays and the start of Religious School, Beth Ahabah’s calendar has been full of services, events, and activities! Here are a few highlights:

Rosh Hashanah and Tashlich

Congregation Beth Ahabah celebrated Rosh Hashanah with beautiful music-filled services in the sanctuary.

On Rosh Hashanah afternoon, congregants gathered at Richmond’s Pony Pasture Park for an annual Tashlich tradition.

After a brief service, participants tossed their sins (in the form of wildlife-safe crackers) into the James River and listened to the sound of the shofar.

Everyone enjoyed free treats from Kona Ice afterward.

Religious School

Religious School is back in full swing!

With a school-wide curriculum written by Beth Ahabah staff, students will be learning about Jewish lifecycle events, Jewish history, weekly Torah portions, Jewish values, Shabbat prayers, Hebrew words for colors and numbers, and a monthly focus on Israel.

Items from the Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives will be on display for students several times per month and will provide hands-on supplements to lessons.

After a fun opening day on October 1st, families enjoyed games, hot dogs, and other treats served by the Beth Ahabah Brotherhood. Many thanks to all our volunteers!

Simchat Torah

Beth Ahabah celebrated Simchat Torah with seven joyful hakafot (circles) around the sanctuary to the music of Richmond-based band, My Son the Doctor.

Congregants were treated to their lively tunes throughout the service as well. Festivities continued the following morning with a bat mitzvah (congratulations, Grace!) and the unrolling of a Torah around the sanctuary.

Pet Blessing

On Oct. 15, Rabbi Nagel and Cantor Beck-Berman joined Beth Ahabah’s furry family members—and their owners—for a pet blessing at Henrico’s Deep Run Park.

Coming Up

Tot Shabbat continues on Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. at Beth Ahabah!

Everyone is welcome to attend this monthly program that teaches the joy of Shabbat to the smallest members of our community (0-5 years old) through songs and movement.
