In our vibrant community, there are those whose commitment shines brightly, inspiring others to follow suit.
Among these dedicated individuals is Lily Brooks, a senior at Douglas Freeman High School, who has earned the esteemed Arenstein Family Excellence in Youth Service Award for her commitment to service and leadership.
Lily received the award at the Weinstein JCC’s Annual Meeting on May 19th, which shows how much she has contributed to her school and community. She’s a hardworking student involved in many activities, and her influence goes beyond just her studies.
At Douglas Freeman, Lily is not only a distinguished member but also a leader in several clubs, including the Jewish Student Union, the French Club, the National Art Honor Society, and the National Honor Society.
In these areas, she goes above and beyond, extending her knowledge and support to her peers as a dedicated tutor for freshmen and sophomores.
However, Lily’s dedication doesn’t stop there. She recently took the initiative to establish a Freeman chapter of The One Love Foundation, showcasing her commitment to fostering healthy relationships and preventing relationship violence among youth—a cause close to her heart.
On the sports field, Lily is a force to be reckoned with. As the only junior on the Douglas Freeman High School tennis team, she played an instrumental role in securing three consecutive state championships – a testament to her skill, determination, and teamwork.
Yet, perhaps most notably, Lily’s leadership shines through her involvement with BBYO (B’nai B’rith Youth Organization).
For three consecutive terms, she served as President/N’Siah of her local chapter, Cohen BBG, demonstrating her ability to inspire and mobilize her peers towards meaningful action. Recently elected as the Virginia Council N’Siah, Lily’s influence within the organization continues to grow, as she spearheads initiatives that not only enrich the lives of its members but also strengthen their connection to the Jewish community.
Beyond her achievements, what sets Lily apart is her genuine passion for service and her dedication to making a difference.
Her family, filled with pride at her accomplishments, recognizes not only her academic prowess but also her compassionate spirit and tireless efforts to leave a positive impact on the world around her.
