In a recent message to the Weinstein JCC community, CEO Orly Lewis expressed a strong commitment to serving the community and ensuring the JCC remains relevant.

With 25 years of experience within the organization, Lewis announced the completion of the initial phase of a fundraising campaign called “Building a Bright Future Together,” aimed at securing the JCC’s future.

The campaign aims to upgrade facilities like the preschool, after-school programs, fitness center, aquatic facilities, and Camp Hilbert. It also seeks to improve security and renovate the Arenstein lobby to include a convenient Kosher Grab-and-Go Café and spaces for gathering and working.

“Building a Bright Future Together” will fortify the community, embolden the Center to take decisive actions, and equip it to confront future challenges. Thanks to a generous contribution and a challenge match from the Weinstein-Jecklin family, along with full board participation and support from gracious donors, the initial goal has already been achieved.

The facility renovations and upgrades are expected to take 18-to-24 months to complete and will be carried out in phases. The phasing of the project and construction will be clearly communicated to members and families to minimize disruption.

Work has already begun in the former Jewish Community Federation of Richmond and Richmond Jewish Foundation space, transforming it to support the JCC’s award-winning preschool program, increasing capacity by 14 students per year.

The JCC plans to provide regular updates to the community, including visual progress reports.

Lewis highlighted the importance of courage and optimism in preparing for the future, reaffirming the JCC’s commitment to being a leading provider of educational, recreational, and wellness services in RVA.

Gratitude was expressed to key partners like the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond and Richmond Jewish Foundation for their support. Lewis also thanked professionals, colleagues, and lay leaders for their collaboration during challenging times.

The campaign’s public launch took place at a community-wide celebration held at the Weinstein JCC on June 20. This event showcased the JCC’s dedication to excellence and marked the beginning of the community phase of the campaign, aiming to raise the remaining funds needed.
