Co-Managing Director Will Take on Leadership of Jewish Life at UVA

The Brody Jewish Center, Hillel at the University of Virginia announced that Annie Weinberg will serve as its next executive director after serving as co-managing director this year.

She will succeed previous executive director Jake Rubin, who started a new position with Hillel International as associate vice president for Talent Acquisition Strategy and Search.

In her new role, Weinberg will oversee Hillel at UVA’s efforts to create meaningful experiences, programming, and community for the nearly 1,000 Jewish undergraduate and 600 Jewish graduate students at the University of Virginia.

A Richmond native, she is a Rudlin Torah Academy Day School graduate and Virginia Council BBYO alum.

After graduating from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in youth and social innovation and psychology, Weinberg began her professional career with UVA Hillel as a development associate, springboard innovation fellow, director of Jewish student life, then assistant director and later the co-managing director working alongside Truman Brody-Boyd.

During her five years with UVA Hillel, Weinberg created leadership development programs, led educational courses, reimagined the First Year WaJew experience for incoming students, and formed meaningful connections across Grounds with students, faculty, UVA administration, and local community members. Weinberg also holds a master’s degree in nonprofit studies from the University of Richmond.

“I am grateful for this exciting new chapter and to continue the work I care so deeply about, with an organization in which I truly believe,” said Annie. “I am deeply committed to our mission – to empower the next generation of Jewish young adults to take ownership over their Jewish identity. It is an honor to lead that work together with the rest of our incredible team, and to provide a supportive and joyful place for students on Grounds to explore their Judaism and build a Jewish community that will stay with them long after they graduate.”

“Annie is a passionate leader with the right experience to continue the tremendous momentum at UVA Hillel for supporting the Jewish community on grounds,” said Scott Rosen, board chair of the Brody Jewish Center, UVA Hillel. “She understands what makes the Brody Jewish Center so successful, and I look forward to seeing how her strategic vision for the BJC will create more growth opportunities and impact for our students.”

“I am elated to see Annie’s well-deserved selection as executive director, where I know she will bring great expertise and enthusiasm to this critical role,” said Adam Lehman, president and CEO of Hillel International. “Annie has already made substantial contributions toward ensuring UVA Hillel is an indispensable resource for Jewish students, and her impact will only grow in this new leadership capacity.”

Annie officially assumed her role on July 2.
