By Rabbi Randi Nagel, Kirva Hospice Spiritual Director

Kirva Hospice, the name of our organization evolved from the Hebrew word  (keer-vah), meaning closeness, caring, and companionship.

In that respect, caring for hospice patients is not only our passion, it is inherent in our name. It is founded on the values and principles of Judaism, and is community focused created by and for the Jewish community of Richmond.

Our staff, including a Rabbi, is knowledgeable and practiced in the Jewish faith and can guide families during their sacred journey. Kirva Hospice staff lives the Jewish principle of b’tzelem Elohim, the concept that everyone no matter station or creed is created in the image of the divine and should be treated with dignity, respect and honor deserving of the divine at all times.

Kirva Hospice embodies the Jewish tradition of shomrim, being an ever-present companion to loved ones in the final stage of life making sure to emphasize human fellowship, comfort, and compassion.
