As hundreds of Jewish first-year students begin their journey, Hillel at VCU is excited to welcome them to campus with a host of High Holiday celebrations and engaging programs.
During the second week of the school year, students enjoyed re-engaging with the Jewish community on campus through Hillel Welcome Week. From Cold Brews and Conversations to Picnic in the Park, Jewish students started their year off strong.
Throughout the upcoming High Holiday season, we are excited to bring students a host of new programs, as well as some of their favorite programs.
This month, we prep for the start of the High Holidays and Rosh Hashana with a litany of student programs. In partnership with Tikkun HaYam, we are bringing back Reverse Tashlich, which flips Tashlich on its head, as we will “remove our transgressions” from the water by cleaning up the waterfront at Belle Isle.
This program is part of Hillel at VCU’s commitment to Tzedek, translated to righteousness, fairness, or justice.
Hillel at VCU’s Springboard Ezra Fellow, Kayla Seabolt, is excited to lead an array of Jewish educational experiences kicking off this moment, including our bimonthly Lunch and Learn and monthly Torah on Tap and Book Club programs. Lunch and Learn is designed to connect students with easily digestible and relevant Jewish learning that meet students where they are at in the Jewish journey. Torah on Tap implores older students and recent graduates to deep dive into Jewish themes that challenge their perceptions of Jewish life. Book Club exposes students to some of the most influential Jewish authors, like Bari Weiss, Rabbi Danya Ruttenberg, and James McBride.
As the High Holiday season rolls on, Hillel at VCU will be there to ensure that students have a home for the holidays.
