Now in its 22nd year, the Jerusalem Science Contest is an international competition for 11th and 12th grade Jewish high school students interested in learning a cutting-edge science topic and its Judaic relevance.
This year, contestants competed through a series of lectures and exams on neuroscience.
Chanah Rachel Follick and Ella Soloveichik both 11th grade students at Shaarei Torah, under the guidance of their Science teacher, Mrs. Susan Schaefer, applied to the program in September and were accepted.
They studied selected readings and video lectures on neuroscience and cognition, and competed with over 900 students worldwide through a series of 8 exams and an original research project.
Participants who successfully completed all aspects of the program also received college credit at accepting universities.
After months of rigorous lectures, exams, and an independent research project, both young ladies presented their research projects at the culminating program in Chicago, and placed first and fourth in the competition.
In addition to cash prizes, college credit and a Jerusalem College of Technology JCT Lev Academic Center 4-Year Scholarship, they spent a week touring in Israel in May.
Congratulations!
