Did you hear the part where Jonah hid under a giant wooden bowl on the ship sailing far away from Nineveh, and that when he finally made it to Nineveh to deliver a message to be kind, the Ninevites communicated with sunglasses?
Well, you heard it here first – the families who attended PJ Library’s recent Whale of a Tale created quite a creative and fun version of the story of Jonah and the biggest fish in the sea!
In anticipation of the High Holy Days, participants decorated Rosh Hashanah placemats and then listened to and acted out the story of Jonah and the Whale with unique props; they even created a giant storm in the room, complete with wind, rain, and sea-themed background music.
Participants discussed ways to make the world a better place before an apple and honey snack. Hats off to our creative PJ parents, children, and grandparents!
PJ Parent Shlomo Skaist said, “My 6-year-old absolutely loved being the big fish! It was such a delight … and to see this come to life for adults and kids together was really profound. Thank you PJ Library and RTA!
PJ Grandparent Karen Fine shared, “This was wonderful! I really enjoyed being a participant, not just an observer.”
PJ Library thanks our adventurous participants, the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, and Lauren Rechany with our event partner Rudlin Torah Academy for bringing this unique and fun improv event to life. We are grateful to PJ Library parent volunteer Molly Dickinson, volunteer Teddy Dickinson, University of Richmond student and Hillel member Anastasia Klyashtorny, and to Rikva Skaist and Molly Dickinson for capturing photos.
