Kehillah held the only High Holidays services in Midlothian, creating a new and exciting opportunity for local residents to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
The independent and progressive Jewish community partnered with Empower Fitness, a wellness center that promotes whole-health education and connection, to provide a unique space for Jewish life to thrive in Midlothian and Woodlake.
Drawing from Reform and Reconstructionist traditions, the intimate gatherings featured music, meaningful messages, and concise services that incorporated key elements of the High Holidays.
Kehillah also took a trip to the Virginia Holocaust Museum where congregant Jenna Friedberg (also a volunteer at the museum) guided Kehillah members through the exhibits, offering fascinating and thoughtful insights into this dark period of Jewish history.
An amazing moment happened when fellow congregation member Austin Marks showed his grandfather’s uniform and medals, located inside the museum. It was truly a wonderful experience to see the history come alive. (See the photos)
What’s next for Kehillah? Now that holidays are over, it’s back to monthly Shabbat dinners in the Rabbi’s home, Torah study on Saturday mornings, and planning for the big Hanukkah party, to be held in Midlothian as well.
