Sorrow Into a Source of Light
This year it was difficult to imagine joyful dancing on Simchas Torah.
However, Rabbi, Yossel and Nechomi Kranz found a way to make that happen at Chabad. On Yom Kippor Rabbi Kranz told the hundreds who had come to pray that their high holiday prayers would only be complete if they came back to dance on Simchas Torah and over 100 people did just that.
The crowd gathered on the terrace, which was decorated with glowing canopies modeled after the site of the Nova Festival in Israel.
After a beautiful ceremony remembering the souls who we lost on that day last year, each person used their yizkor candle to kindle a light for Yom Tov – using light of mourning and remembrance, to usher in the light of joy and unity for the future. This was followed by good food, dancing and being grateful to be together with the Richmond community.
