A Friendlier World Begins with Unconditional Friendships
Friendship Circle of Virginia’s (FCVA) 2024 fundraising campaign was a resounding success, made possible by the generous contributions during last February’s matching campaign.
Building on that momentum, the 2025 matching campaign will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 25-26. This ambitious 36-hour initiative aims to raise $136,000 to support the vital work FCVA does for families and the community.
The Power of Friendship
The theme, “A Friendlier World Begins with Unconditional Friendships,” reflects the heart of FCVA’s mission.
At its core, Friendship Circle is about creating meaningful relationships that transcend differences, where every individual feels valued and celebrated for who they are. By fostering authentic connections between children and teens with disabilities and Teen Friends in the community, FCVA builds a foundation of inclusion, mutual respect, and understanding.
These friendships not only enhance the lives of participants but also inspire a broader culture of kindness and respect within the community. FCVA empowers individuals to see beyond their abilities and champion a vision of a world where everyone belongs and where inclusion is a given.
This mission extends beyond the direct impact on participants, as every program and event encourages a ripple effect of positivity, creating ambassadors of inclusion who spread the values of friendship, acceptance, and belonging throughout their circles and beyond.
Supporting a Growing Community
Friendship Circle of Virginia continues to grow, adding a new staff member and expanding programming to meet the increasing demand.
Attendance at events is at a record high. Given this growth, the annual FCVA matching fundraising campaign is more important than ever to sustain and enhance the services provided to over 300 local families and more than 8,000 community members annually.
For families of children with disabilities, community events often take a back seat to medical and therapeutic priorities. FCVA’s free, inclusive programs allow these families to experience joy and connection without financial strain.
One parent shared, “If we had to pay, we probably wouldn’t be able to come.” These so-called ‘non-essential’ activities often prove to be the most essential for fostering a sense of belonging and community.
Funds raised during this campaign will ensure that FCVA programs remain free and accessible to everyone in the community.
By creating opportunities for friendship and belonging, FCVA empowers children and teens with disabilities to shine and share their unique light with the world.
Through its programs, FCVA creates ambassadors of inclusion, understanding, and friendship, fostering a culture where every person is valued for who they are.
