In honor of Earl Ferguson, of blessed memory
The Weinstein JCC’s Jewish Family Theatre is proud to present its musical production of Fiddler on the Roof from Dec. 5-15.
Debra Clinton, JFT’s Artistic Producing Director, has assembled an amazingly talented cast including Richard Travis starring in the role of Tevye.
With musical direction by Stephen Rudlin and choreography by Pam Turner, the show promises to be a huge hit!
The show’s opening night will include a special post-show reception in honor of Earl Ferguson, of blessed memory, along with the cast of the production from 15 years ago.
Fiddler on the Roof is based on Tevye (or Tevye the Dairyman) and his Daughters, a series of stories by Sholem Aleichem that he wrote in Yiddish between 1894 and 1914 about Jewish life in a village in the Pale of Settlement of Imperial Russia at the turn of the 20th century.
Tevye is a milkman in the village of Anatevka, who attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions as outside influences encroach upon his family’s lives.
The original Broadway production of Fiddler on the Roof ran for 3,242 performances, making it the longest-running Broadway musical at the time.
It won nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score. The musical has been revived five times on Broadway. Fiddler on the Roof has been performed around the world in multiple languages and yet, the themes are universal and continue to be relevant today.
