March 3 – Derwin Kinston Jr., U.S. Postal Service Inspector, Fraud Investigations/Washington Division. He will speak about mail fraud schemes and how to prevent them and discuss methods used by criminals to steal your financial records and personal information. You will learn the simple things you can do to prevent financial fraud and what to do if you are a victim. Postal Inspectors are law enforcement officers who investigate crimes involving the mail. These crimes include mail theft, mail fraud, financial fraud, identity theft, robberies and burglaries of postal facilities, assaults and threats on postal employees, investigations of dangerous and prohibited mails, narcotics, cybercrime and more.
March 10 – Gregg Philipson, Collector: Topic is “Jews in Space” This presentation will highlight Jewish astronauts from around the globe and their significant contributions to space programs worldwide. Jews have been involved in space exploration from the beginning of the modern space era and some, tragically, have made the ultimate sacrifice.
March 17 – Kimberly Bridges, Adult Services Programming Librarian, Henrico County Public Library. Topic: Ruth Reichl’s new book, A Paris Novel. She will talk about Ruth’s background and career as well as highlight her past work. She will discuss the “All Henrico Reads program,” and talk about the author, tracing her life through her published books and memoirs. There will be a group discussion of Reichl’s food writing from various sources, ending with the audience discussing their favorite dish or memorable meal to share. Ruth Reichl will be making a personal appearance at the Library on March 27.
March 24 – Shawn L. Smith: SMP State Director of Virginia Association Area Agencies on Aging. Shawn provides strategic leadership in the development and execution of a statewide program designed to prevent Medicare fraud. His Topic: “Avoiding Common Healthcare Scams.” Healthcare scams targeting seniors are on the rise. Daily, seniors fall for healthcare scams via telephone calls and mail deliveries that can put their Medicare benefits, finances, and health at risk. This session will seek to empower seniors by educating them on the most common healthcare scams, and ways to prevent, detect, and report them.
March 31 – Enrich for Life: The Intergenerational Passover Model Seder with the 7th and 8th Graders from Rudlin Torah Academy. Learn the story about Passover, meet new people and enjoy a traditional complimentary Passover meal. All faiths are welcome and open to the community.
