Religious School Day of Learning and Service

On Sunday, Jan. 19, Religious School students participated in a school-wide Day of Learning and Service.

Each class took part in projects that included making a meal for our local police precinct, helping to pack lunches and personal care items for those experiencing homelessness, painting rocks for Hebrew Cemetery, and visiting The Virginia Home.

Thank you to students, teachers, madrichim, and adult volunteers for making the day a resounding success!

BAMA Museum Opening

Carole and Marcus Weinstein with Rabbi Nagel.

The Beth Ahabah Museum and Archives celebrated its grand opening after moving to its new home at 1121 West Franklin Street.

The event, held on Saturday, Jan. 25, began with Rabbi Nagel installing the mezuzah at the entrance to the museum.

The evening included a Havdalah service, catered refreshments, and self-guided tours of the museum.

We thank Carole and Marcus Weinstein for their generous contributions that helped transform unused classrooms into a beautiful and bright display space and office, and Dr. Renate Forssmann-Falck for donating the mezuzah and furniture.

Pinewood Derby

On Sunday, Feb. 2, Cub Scout Pack 437 held its annual Pinewood Derby.

In the weeks leading up to the big race, Scouts worked to create and decorate their small wooden cars.

The top three finishers earned prizes, and a special award was given for the best decorated car. Sponsored by Congregation Beth Ahabah, Pack 437 is open to boys and girls from Kindergarten through fifth grade.

For more information about the pack or soon-to-be-formed troop for girls and boys in sixth grade and above, please contact Sarah Roper at programs@bethahabah.org.

Shabbat Shirah

At its annual Shabbat Shirah celebration on Friday, Feb.7, Beth Ahabah was thrilled to welcome the Afro-Semitic Experience.

The band combined an eclectic array of musical styles, including soul and jazz, with traditional service music.

Coming Up Purim Weekend

On Sunday, March 16, the community is invited to “Once Upon a Shpiel,” a fairy tale-based version of the Megillah! Doors open at 6 p.m. for noshing on hamantaschen, and the show starts at 6:30 p.m. There is no cost to attend either event, and no reservation required. Chag sameach!
