Over the past month, several new programs have launched, and there has been a dramatic increase in student participation.

Every Friday night, more than 30 students gather for the famous and incredible Shabbat dinner, featuring delicious traditional food lovingly prepared by Daniela Lessoff.

The atmosphere is electric, and students describe it as the highlight of their week. They stay long into the night, enjoying deep conversations and meaningful connections.

One of the newest initiatives, Girls’ Night, is a special evening just for women—a chance to bond and have fun together.

The program has already sparked great interest, with the first event featuring insightful discussions about the unique role of Jewish women, followed by a hands-on workshop where students made decadent Dubai-style chocolates!

A particularly exciting milestone is the long-awaited launch of Sinai Scholars at VCU. This prestigious program takes students on an eight-week journey of self-discovery, helping them connect with their Jewish identity and their place in the Jewish people.

The first cohort, limited to 10 participants, has already generated incredible enthusiasm. Upon completing the program, students will be treated to a transformative Shabbat experience and an unforgettable trip together.

According to Rabbi Menachem Lessoff, this semester has been especially rewarding, with a fresh wave of interest and engagement. “Right now, nearly 100 Jewish students are in regular contact with us, and that number is growing daily—including many from the medical school,” he shared.

Looking ahead, Rabbi Lessoff and the team are already preparing for a huge Purim celebration and a centralized Passover Seder on campus.

He warmly invites community members to experience the vibrancy of Jewish life at VCU firsthand.  “If you’d like to see what’s happening, reach out—send an email, give us a call, or just stop by. We’d love to welcome you!”
