I was honored to attend and represent Hadassah on Jan. 29 for Virginia Jewish Advocacy Day at the General Assembly.

It was so rewarding to be with the Jewish community of Richmond. The day started early but was filled with anticipation.

As I’ve mentioned, I moved to Richmond 5 years ago, and when I walked down the Federation’s bus aisle and recognized so many faces in those already seated on the bus, I realized the benefits I have reaped being a Hadassah member. I have met and connected with people from all over the Jewish community.

The day allowed me to share with several Delegates Hadassah’s message of advocating for Women’s health including reproductive freedom and women’s choices in their healthcare. The day also provided me an opportunity to make new Richmond friends.

Some of these new friends also shared their ideas for Hadassah programming.

I had no idea that the Varina Public Library has a kitchen- the only branch in the Henrico library system to have one. Hadassah could sponsor a Jewish cooking class to share Jewish culture with the community. Another idea is a program on Art and Healing, bringing a local tattoo artist who helps breast cancer survivors feel good about themselves after a mastectomy. A program on CPR was also suggested, reminding us how essential it is for us all to be able to provide resuscitation.

Please reach out to me if you would like to play a role in making some of these ideas come to life.

You will find it rewarding and make friends in the process. I look forward to hearing from you.
