Providing both teachers and students with the best educational resources on the Holocaust is the driving force behind our Education Department. Whether through free professional development workshops for teachers or the Annual Student Visual Arts Contest for students in grades 6–12, our goal is to provide exceptional materials and opportunities to learn about the Holocaust.

This March, we are offering two free professional development workshops for educators:

March 6: Teaching About World War II Using Personal Stories

Join us at the Virginia Holocaust Museum in Richmond for a full-day workshop featuring members of the World War II Heritage Alliance, including The Virginia Holocaust Museum, The Virginia War Memorial, Hampton Roads Naval Museum, The Military Aviation Museum, and the National D-Day and MacArthur Memorials. This program will bring to life the courageous and untold stories of World War II through personal narratives from our archives.

March 20: Teaching Holocaust Herstories – Mothers,

Daughters, Fighters, and Resisters

In collaboration with Centropa, this workshop will explore the diverse and complex experiences of women during the Holocaust. Through photographs and real-life testimonies from women of different countries, ages, and backgrounds, educators will examine the impact of gender roles and societal expectations during this period. Topics include:

  • Young women who fought with the partisans in the Balkans
  • A Jewish teenager’s survival story in Ukraine
  • A girl from Vienna who escaped via Kindertransport

This workshop, hosted at the Virginia Holocaust Museum, will provide valuable classroom resources and discussions on the impossible choices Jewish women faced during the Holocaust.

Both workshops include:

  • Breakfast, coffee, and lunch
  • Classroom resources
  • A certificate of attendance

Registration is quick and easy. For a full list of upcoming workshops,
