Active in RISC for over 20 years

Or Ami has been an active member of the interfaith social justice advocacy group RISC (Richmonders Involved to Strengthen our Community) for over 20 years.

Our combined efforts have been inspiring and effective – resulting in 935 units of affordable housing developed or preserved; almost 3000 people able to stay in their homes due to emergency rent assistance; and hundreds of low income job seekers trained through the VCU Pathways program.

Early in the year congregants of each faith community reflect on problems they experience and come together to study and address those commonly shared.

This year, the 28 member congregations are focused on reducing gun violence, increasing affordable housing, and repairing distressed mobile homes. After meeting with experts in the field, and consulting with local stakeholders, reasonable proven solutions are discussed with decision makers.

On March 25 Or Amians joined 2,000 other RISC members to stand in solidarity and ask Mayor Avula and the City Council to adopt a Gun Violence Reduction Strategy that has reduced shootings in Philadelphia, Hopewell and several other cities and bolster the Affordable Housing Trust Fund with a steady income stream.

All are invited to join the effort. Contact Social_Action@or-ami.com for information.
