The Hadassah Southern Seaboard Region held its Winter Meeting in Richmond installing its new board.
Do you know that the Southern Seaboard Region not only includes Richmond but also consists of Virginia chapters from Charlottesville, Norfolk/VA Beach and Danville; West Virginia Hadassah chapters from Bluefield and Charleston and North Carolina chapters from Charlotte, Raleigh/Cary, Wilmington and Greensboro/Winston-Salem.
Each Hadassah region is part of an Area of the United States. The Hadassah Southern Seaboard Region is part of the Super South Area which includes 2 other regions. I enjoy attending Hadassah region and area events to meet with Jewish women and discover how our similarities and differences connect us.
New Co-Presidents
Mazel tov to Southern Seaboard’s new Co-Presidents, Rebecca Young (past Hadassah Richmond President) and Diane Bisgaier (past Hadassah Charlottesville President) who were installed at a lovely brunch on Sunday, February 23. The region is in great hands.
The installation included a keynote speaker, Rachael Deane, Chief Executive Officer at Voices for Virginia’s Children, the commonwealth’s only independent, multi-issue child policy and advocacy organization.
For nearly 20 years, Rachael has worked on legal and policy advocacy for economic justice, racial equity, and the rights of young people at the local, state, and national levels. She joined Voices after many years as a civil rights attorney working on issues of school funding, the school-to-prison pipeline, juvenile justice and youth mental health.
Her message at the brunch aligns with Hadassah’s mission to care for the well-being of our youth which is demonstrated in the Meir Shfeyah and Neurim Youth Aliyah villages in Israel.
Since 1934, over 300,000 students from 80 lands have graduated from Youth Aliyah.
Young immigrants and at-risk native Israelis receive a full spectrum of help — shelter, food, counseling, education and other supportive services. From Hebrew lessons and classes on Jewish heritage to athletics and art, they get the care and attention needed to become productive members of Israeli society.

I wish you all a Zissen Pesach! Warmly, Arlene
