The Federation mourns the passing of Daniel “Dan” Dubansky, a friend and mentor to many, and who will have a lasting impact on our community, both Jewish and secular.
Dan’s profound involvement with the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond’s Richmond Jewish Coalition for Literacy impacted the lives of youth across many years. The children at Swansboro Elementary School felt Dan’s tremendous heart and warmth the most.
Dan and Deane became known by “Mr. Dan” and “Mrs. Dan” and the boys they mentored as “Dan’s guys.” Deane and Dan worked for years to enrich the students’ lives with experiences, places, and activities that they might otherwise never have seen or experienced.
Dan was a long-time supporter of our Federation and numerous Jewish community agencies, contributing both his time and resources for decades. He and Deane were honored with the Elinor Bloom Marshall Humanitarian Award by Richmond Hadassah and the Chesed Award by Rudlin Torah Academy.
May his family find comfort in the knowledge that so many share their loss and that he will live on forever in the memory of a grateful community.
