Did you know these 10 things are made possible by the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond?

  1. We support the infrastructure that makes our community possible.

Every day Federation supports and sustains the organizations and programs that help our community thrive.

This includes the Weinstein JCC, Rudlin Torah Academy, Beth Sholom Senior Living, Jewish Family Services, BBYO, Jewish Student Union, Aleph Bet Preschool, Hillel and Chabad on campus, Birthright Israel, JELF, Community Security and so much more.

  1. Advocacy.

We represent our community in Richmond and in Washington, D.C., by advocating for issues of importance to our local Jewish community.

  1. PJ Library

Over 500 young children receive PJ Library books each month.

A national program created by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, PJ Library provides FREE Jewish-content books and music on a monthly basis to children between the ages of six months to eight years.

  1. Federation is the community safety net.

Federation funds the Jewish Care Line managed by our partners at JFS Richmond providing critical emergency financial services, counseling and support to Jews in need in Richmond.

The confidential help line is professionally staffed and has helped hundreds of families over the past 5 years. Federation also runs the indigent Burial program providing resources to insure that every Jew is provided a dignified end of life experience.

  1. Financial resources.

The Federation, including its Annual Campaign and other fundraising, infused over $3 million in support to the community last year.

  1. Community security.

The Federation partners with the Secure Community Network, Homeland Security, the FBI and other national and local law enforcement agencies to help make Jewish Richmond a more secure place to be Jewish.

These efforts have helped secure over $4.5 million in grants to local agencies and synagogues since 2019 and has trained over 800 members of our community.

  1. Bridge building.

Our Jewish Community Relations Committee develops strong relationships with the religious and civic communities to help local Jews every day and especially during times of crisis.

  1. Scholarships.

The Federation distributes more than $125,000 in scholarships enabling young people to attend Jewish day schools, Jewish overnight summer camps and schools and programs in Israel.

  1. Connections to Israel.

Home to all things Israel in Richmond, our Partnership2Gether programs and Israel education initiatives connect Richmonders to our Israeli brothers and sisters through cultural and educational programs and travel experiences.

This includes welcoming an Israeli emissary, a Shaliach to Richmond in Fall 2023.

  1. Community engagement.

The Federation works with several hundred volunteers serving on more than a dozen  committees and assisting on special initiatives  who represent the needs and desires of the entire Richmond Jewish community.
