Mira Ciment designs a Kiddush Cup during JLEAP on May 28 at the Weinstein JCC. JLEAP is a partnership with the Weinstein JCC, Keneseth Beth Israel, Jewish Community Federation of Richmond, PJ Li-brary, Jewish Student Union, and Rudlin Torah Academy.

The month of May was quite eventful at Keneseth Beth Israel (KBI)!

The Shabbat of May 19-20 brought scholar-in-residence Rabbi Bezalel Naor to the shul, where he spoke Friday night and multiple times during Shabbat day. This included a presentation with Rabbi Elisha Paul, Principal of Rudlin Torah Academy, at the end of the Shabbat lunch at KBI that was sponsored in honor of Rabbi Naor.

In celebration of the holiday of Shavuot, the shul arranged a variety of activities. On the first night of Shavuot, Rabbi Dovid Asher (KBI Rabbi) and Rabbi Adam Winston (KBI President) gave classes late in the evening as part of the shul’s all-night learning program.

The following day, the shul’s annual cheesecake contest was held at the home of Elliot and Rebecca Levy. Six cheesecakes were entered into the well-attended contest of 30+ guests. Congratulations to Shira and Samuel Klein, the lucky contest winners!

On Shabbat, a children’s program in honor of Shavuot featured games, snacks, and learning. There was a large turnout of children, who were very engaged in the activities!

The latest JLEAP (Jewish Learning Enrichment and Play) event for children (see photo) took place right after Shavuot, during the afternoon of Sunday, May 28 at the Weinstein JCC.

Entitled “Is it Shabbat yet,?” the event provided educational fun for 50+ kids. Activities included make-your-own Kiddush Cup and Challah cover, kneading and braiding challah, Shabbat-themed coloring, and more!

Planned events for June at the time of this writing include the Waffle Café on Father’s Day, a family-fun morning program offering a variety of waffle flavors. Camp SEED, an annual 4-week summer camp for children, is expected to kickoff at the end of June and extend through most of July.
