Or Atid Caring for our Community – Doorways Brunch Bunch

A wonderful group of volunteers from Or Atid and the local Chavurah prepared and served a delicious brunch for the Doorways residents on Sunday, August 6th.

The Doorways is a hospitality house that provides housing for patients and their families being treated at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Health Center. Housing can range from one or two nights to as long as a year.

Guests only pay for whatever they can afford, which often is nothing at all. With generous donations from the community, Doorways provides fully equipped kitchen areas and food staples for guests to prepare their own meals and snacks. But the stress of coping with often lifesaving medical procedures, all while living far from home, means that having meals served to them can be a welcome relief.

The volunteers who planned, prepared food, contributed funds and/or served brunch included Dana, Even, and Jackson Gwaltney; Allison Sands; Ephraim Seidman; Frankie Snyder; Marci Weinberg and Jay Rue; Suzi and Harlan Shufelt; Ellen Bernstein and certified therapy dog, Sophie; Bill Nelson; Olive Johnson; Rachel Mollen; and Ralph, and Sandy Mayer.  Many other Chavurah members generously funded the brunch.

Everyone enjoyed spending time together while helping Doorways residents enjoy a more leisurely Sunday morning.  Hopefully, we will be doing it again soon!  What an amazing team!
