An epic journey of sports and connection

In an exhilarating display of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, Team Richmond from the Weinstein JCC emerged victorious at the Fort Lauderdale Maccabi Games.

Comprising four outstanding athletes who excelled in tennis, baseball, ice hockey, and swimming, this team left an indelible mark on this international sporting event.

The Fort Lauderdale Maccabi Games, a gathering of over 2,000 Jewish teenagers hailing from 68 countries, offer much more than just a platform for athletic competition. While medals are undoubtedly a prized achievement, the true essence of these Games lies in the profound connections forged among young participants from diverse corners of the world.

Chayla Parker, the team’s swimming sensation, soared to new heights during the Games. She clinched a well-deserved bronze in the 100-yard freestyle relay and secured a gold medal in the grueling 400-yard IM relay. Chayla’s outstanding performance made her a true superstar of the event, showcasing her dedication, talent, and determination.

The other Richmond team participants were: Justin Fratkin – Tennis; Eli Staffenberg – Baseball; and Levi Stutman- Hockey.

Yet, the Fort Lauderdale Maccabi Games are not solely about sports. They are a celebration of culture, camaraderie, and community. Participants are treated to unforgettable opening and closing ceremonies, spirited parties, the opportunity to engage with Israeli schlichim (emissaries), and the chance to give back through JCC Cares initiatives.

Perhaps most notably, participants are hosted by local Jewish families, providing a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and bonding.

The Maccabi Games are set to continue their tradition of excellence, with next year’s edition slated for Israel, Detroit, and Houston. It’s time to prepare for another incredible journey of sports, friendship, and global connection.
