Keneseth Beth Israel (KBI) had a packed schedule for the High Holiday Season. Let’s take a look!
Rosh Hashanah events included the yearly walking trip to the University of Richmond lake to say Tashlich (a prayer for casting away sin). In addition to the regular services, during which babysitting was available, a number of sermons and relevant classes were also offered.
At the conclusion of the Yom Kippur fast, KBI hosted its yearly free “break the fast” meal, a delicious feast catered by Amy Beth Lehman that included bagels and spreads, a variety of salads, macaroni and cheese, desserts, and more!
In preparation for the holiday of Succot, KBI hosted a community succah building and decorating event, at which there was a large turnout. The same week, community members picked up their traditional lulav and etrog set at KBI.
Similar to Rosh Hashanah, a variety of classes were offered over the course of the Succot holiday in addition to the regular services. Programming for children included the yearly Succah Hop. For this event, families met at KBI and visited community succahs (which included the partaking of delicious treats, of course!).
During the holiday of Simchat Torah, KBI hosted its yearly delicious luncheon catered by Amy Beth Lehman that included a variety of salads, entrees, and desserts. The usual festive atmosphere, however, was of course tempered by news of war in Israel. In addition to the regular services, community members gave classes in the evenings as well.
The entire Richmond Jewish community is invited to attend KBI’s free monthly gourmet Gold Kiddush after Shabbat day services (approximately 10:45 a.m.). Come eat, talk, and enjoy!
