A Season of Giving at JFS

Volunteeers from the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond gather together during a Lights of Love wrapping gifts night at JFS.

Holidays are about spreading joy, thanks, showing appreciation, and flowing light and love to those in need.

The team at JFS is grateful to help brighten the holidays for so many this year!  From fulfilling wish lists to providing meals, delivering gifts and spreading happiness throughout.

The magic began in November with the “A Hand to Hold” Adoption Awareness Month campaign! Every day in November, CBS 6 featured children in central Virginia’s foster care system available for adoption, raising awareness about the need for foster and adoptive parents and hoping to connect kids to loving families.

JFS Connecting Hearts is grateful to WTVR CBS 6 News for joining us for another successful campaign.

Thanksgiving surprises!

Senior Engagement clients received a beautifully hand-packaged meal to enjoy. Volunteers (see photo below) delivered these treats to seniors who otherwise may not have been able to celebrate with a delicious feast on this special day.

JFS’ annual Lights of Love returned in November for a fourth consecutive year! This year was a great success thanks to you: our friends, partners, volunteers, and staff!

Generous donors and helpers brightened the holiday season for over 200 adults, seniors, families, and children in foster care. Lights of Love is a program designed to help bring warmth and light to neighbors who might otherwise feel forgotten.

JFS Connecting Hearts was grateful to be a recipient of gifts from the Rudlin Torah Academy (RTA) Toy Drive in memory of Skyler Legano.

Skyler, RTA class of 2020, brought a joy for life and learning that brightened every room he entered. Many of the children JFS and Connecting Hearts works with live in residential settings, group or foster homes – having presents to unwrap, like the toys collected by RTA, makes an otherwise difficult holiday season feel happier.

For an exciting conclusion -24 children in Fairfield Court experienced the joy of finding a shining new bike waiting for them this holiday season.

The gifts were provided by a partnership of Richmond Area Bicycle Association (RABA). Their members raise money and buy the bikes, assemble them, and partner with area non-profits who work with low-income families.

Jewish Family Services and Richmond Henrico Health District partner in Fairfield Court year ‘round and will make sure that the bikes and helmets get to kids in Fairfield who have been dreaming of a new bike.

Many thanks to all the sponsors, donors, volunteers, and partners who made this giving season a magical success. Your kindness and hard work made a significant difference in the lives of so many. We are truly grateful for you!

Each have worked very hard and deserve this honorable distinction!

Jewish Family Services is supported, in part, by a generous annual contribution and programming grants from the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.
