As the year draws to a close, the warmth of our community at Brith Achim continues to grow, illuminated by the lights of Hanukkah and the spirit of togetherness.

December has been a month of joyous celebration, introspection, and welcoming new beginnings.

The highlight of our festive season was undoubtedly the Hanukkah party at the synagogue.

This delightful evening was catered by the talented Jack Halpern, and a dedicated team of volunteers worked magic in the kitchen, preparing delicious latkes that brought back a taste of tradition to everyone present.

The night was made even more special by the singing performance of Rabbi Menachem Sherman’s daughter, Bracha, age 6, who captivated us all with a few classics.

Our special Hanukkah Bingo game was a hit, with members of all ages participating eagerly for a chance to win prizes. The laughter and friendly competition added a vibrant energy to the celebration.

This event also served as a warm welcome party for Hazzan Moshe and Rabbi Menachem Sherman. Their presence has already begun to enrich our congregational life, bringing new perspectives and ideas that promise to invigorate our community in the months to come.

Each year Brith Achim has decorated a room for Hanukkah at the open house of the historic Centre Hill Mansion in Petersburg and this year was no exception. Our display was enjoyed by many visitors of this wonderful event. (See photo)

Our weekly Friday night services (7:30 p.m., both in-person and on zoom) continue to be a cornerstone of our weekly spiritual life, and we are blessed to have them led twice a month by Hazzan Moshe Sherman.

His leadership brings a dynamism to our community that has been most welcome. Services for alternating weeks are led by our wonderful lay leaders.

We are also excited to announce that starting Jan. 4th, we will be hosting weekly Torah study sessions on Zoom every Thursday at 7:30 p.m., led by Rabbi Sherman. These sessions are open to all!
