Three Sisterhood members pose with some of the silver they polished as part of Brith Achim High Holiday preparations.

Fall services, High Holidays, Sukkot, and Simchat Torah are over so Congregation Brith Achim is deep in planning for both an ultra-festive Hanukkah celebration and extravagant children’s services!

After receiving a very large number of donated Hanukkah decorations, our Hanukkah planning (beyond the congregation itself) includes:

  • Competing for another award for its holiday celebration display at the Petersburg Area Arts League. In previous years, the display revolved around a signature six-foot menorah.
  • Sisterhood’s supplying Hanukkah displays at area libraries. Look for our displays in libraries around the Tri-cities, Chesterfield and Henrico counties.
  • Supplying Hanukkah displays for the Petersburg Preservation Task Force for use at area museums.

As these displays are under construction, we hope you enjoy the picture of Sisterhood with some of the silver they polished as part of High Holiday preparations. We are actively rejuvenating the children’s playroom and other area to compliment the Men’s Club’s running the Federation-sponsored Children’s Awesome Service Experience.

CASE

Saturday Oct. 2 and 16, we will hold Children’s Awesome Service Experience (CASE), sponsored by the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.

CASE teaches Hebrew and prayer to children in an engaging, dynamic environment of games, videos, music, activities and contests. Services are held in person and simulcast on Zoom.

Follow-up sessions on Zoom with Hebrew and prayer contests (for prizes) will be held on various dates in October to encourage retaining.

Friday night and select Saturday morning service are both in-person and on Zoom – we hope to see you soon.
