The Weinstein JCC‘s community block party on Sept. 30 was a smash hit!
Members, both familiar and new, engaged in the fun activities. A joyful energy, mixed with laughter, sweet music, bubbles, and the smell of scrumptious, savory foods permeated the air. Bright scoops of Kona Ice filled many hands (and covered the shirt fronts of younger members, smiling ear to ear!)
Budding artists had a marvelous time flexing their gardening skills together! Cat Cowan, the Gardening Specialist at the Weinstein JCC Edible Schoolyard, facilitated two crafty activities.
The first was assembling pinecone bird feeders with twine, vegetable shortening, Loblolly Pinecones, and either song or wild bird seed. They are beautiful when hung on tree branches, fences, and railings.
The second activity consisted of planting Daffodil bulbs and Pansies or Chrysanthemums in upcycled, glittery pots. After assembling everything, these sweet little pots were taken home by their new families as a reminder of the remarkable community we grow here together, each of us a precious flower in our thriving community garden.
It was a fabulous way to welcome fall!
A lot has changed over the past 75 years, but the Weinstein JCC community is still the life of the party!
