In the spring of each year, Gila Chapter of Jewish Women International (JWI) and the Stahl family proudly honor a Jewish woman who has demonstrated a lifelong commitment to helping their community.

This is accomplished by bestowing the Sofie Stahl Memorial Award on the deserving volunteer who is chosen by previous recipients. The presentation for 2024 will be held during a brunch reception at the Weinstein JCC.

Founded in 1897, JWI is the leading Jewish organization championing women and girls (i.e. everyone who experiences the world as female) – of every race, culture, ability, gender identity, and sexual orientation – by preventing domestic violence and sexual abuse; addressing the intersection of domestic violence and gun violence; building pathways to long-term economic security, and strengthening access to every level of leadership in our communities, workplaces, and country.

JWI envisions a world, free of violence and inequity, where all women and girls thrive.

Nominations are now being accepted for an exceptional Jewish woman who possesses outstanding qualities demonstrated through their history of volunteerism.

Submissions are being sought from all of the Richmond area Jewish organizations and synagogues. In addition, any individual in the community may nominate a deserving volunteer.

Please send a nominating letter that includes the following: nominee’s volunteer/community organizations (Jewish and secular) and years of service, outstanding achievements in business or professional associations, and a short description of how the nominee’s leadership participation has made significant contributions to the Jewish community.

Major attention of the nomination should focus on nominee’s volunteer activities.

An electronic template of the nomination form may be requested (please email Meryl Bernstein – mamameryl@verizon.net).

Letters will be accepted via USPS or email and should be sent to: Jewish Women International, Gila Chapter, c/o Meryl Bernstein, 2806 Burrard Street, Henrico, VA 23233 or mamameryl@verizon.net.

For questions, please call (804-360-3131) or email Meryl.

The deadline for her to receive these nominations is December 19.
