Tzedek Box Opening at the Virginia Holocaust Museum: Sunday, May 7 at 1 p.m.
Middle Schoolers from a variety of synagogues and schools across the community came together at the Weinstein JCC in the fall of 2022 to discuss concepts of repairing the world while responding to the 2022 Global Day of Jewish Learning’s theme of “rebuilding.”
In response, students created Tzedek Boxes, which are vessels to hold written submissions of righteous acts of Tikkun Olam.
The Tzedek Boxes were moved to the Virginia Holocaust Museum in early spring of 2023 and the recording of additional acts of Tikkun Olam encouraged.
On May 7th the community is invited to participate in ceremonially reading the acts of Tikkun Olam that have been recorded and entered into the Tzedek Boxes. Ceremonially reading the completed mitzvot is intended to encourage future action by highlighting that even small righteous acts can have a great impact. (In the photo, Justin Myles submits a reflection in a Tzedek Box a few months ago.)

Purim Extravaganza, Tales and Tails, was a BLAST!
The March 5th, Weinstein JCC Purim Extravaganza of Tales and Tails was a wildly fun event, with hundreds of people coming to the JCC to celebrate!
Purim celebrants came dressed in costume, Danced with Dawn, created crafts, were mesmerized by renowned storyteller Noa Baum, all while a multitude of clowns roamed the JCC, painting faces and making balloon animals! The Beth-El Men’s club shared their culinary expertise, and prepared lunch for this hungry Purim celebrating crowd!
As well as enjoying the fun and shenanigans of Purim, many attendees participated in a meaningful Tikkun Olam Purim Mitzvah project, putting together gift bags for families staying at the Richmond Ronald McDonald house.
The RMH is a ‘home-away-from-home’ for families with children receiving care at local area hospitals throughout the Richmond region.’ The Weinstein JCC Tikkun Olam bags are intended to give a little extra comfort to these families.
Teri Lynn Cooper generously donating the books in the Tikkun Olam bags, and area middle school students, and other community volunteers helped make this celebration fun and successful!
This Weinstein JCC Purim event was supported by the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond.
