The Weinstein JCC’s fundraiser, A Night at the Races, was a resounding success on Thursday, Feb. 23!

The sold-out event broke the record for the most the Center has EVER raised – $129,000! There was a fantastic mix of supporters in the room from multi-generational families to corporate partners, community leaders and new Richmond transplants.

The event featured big screen horse races and sponsors had the opportunity to name the horses competing. In the winner’s circle were:

  • Fantastic Five, owned by Comprehensive Hand Surgery Center
  • 4 Left Feet, owned by Sara & Mitchell Waskin
  • Prickly Pete, owned by Jodi & Greg Bishop
  • Saddle & Gomorrah, owned by the Weinstein JCC Membership Department
  • I Pity the Foal, owned by Daniella & Wes Simon
  • Lucrative, owned by the Salomon & Ludwin Financial Advisory Team

Mother and son duo, Helen and Ricky Horwitz, and Ukranian refugee and Richmond newcomer, Oksana Stakhnevych, shared their heartfelt stories about the Weinstein JCC to kick off the tzedakah appeal.

The guests were so moved by Helen, Ricky, and Oksana’s remarks that they DOUBLED the tzedakah goal for the event!

The staff and board of the Weinstein JCC were brought to tears as they witnessed the overwhelming support for the agency’s work.

Special thanks to the event sponsors including Platinum Sponsor, the Salomon & Ludwin Financial Advisory Team. And our deepest gratitude to the Night at the Races committee: co-chairs Shelley Gouldin and Barbara Simon, Susan Adolf, Claudia Biegler, Lynn Schwartz, Nannette Shor, Lynn Simonoff and Bob Weisberger.
