2023 Israeli shlichim, Yarden and Tal at Camp Hilbert.

Interested in providing a unique Israeli cultural experience for their families? Families have the opportunity to host summer Shlichim at the Weinstein JCC.

Every summer, the Weinstein JCC collaborates with the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond and the Jewish Agency’s Summer Shlichim Program to bring Slichim (emissaries from Israel) to serve as staff members at their camps.

This program acts as a cultural bridge, enabling dynamic young Israelis to impart the “spirit of Israel” to Jewish youth during the summer camp experience.

The Shlichim undergo a rigorous interview process along with a 4-day training seminar to prepare them for life in the United States.

They are mature, English-speaking Israelis who have completed army or national service, possessing experience in various areas of education, and working as counselors, teachers, or childcare workers.

Key Information:

  • Host families are needed to accommodate one (or both) Shlichim for a consecutive, two-week period.
  • Each Shaliach must be provided with a private room featuring an individual bed.
  • Host families are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the JCC Monday- Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Host families are expected to provide three meals a day (Monday thru Friday).
  • Host families enrolled in Camp Hilbert will receive a discount on camp fees for the weeks they host. However, this offer cannot be combined with financial assistance.
  • Host families not enrolled in Camp Hilbert will receive a Kroger gift card for the weeks they host.
