On Sunday, March 24, from noon to 3 p.m., the community is invited to join in the festive Purim celebration at the Weinstein JCC.

Doors open at 11 a.m. exclusively for a sensory-friendly event.

Purim transcends the delights of hamantaschen and graggers; it celebrates the heroic deeds of courageous individuals, past and present. Are you ready to embrace the challenge?

Whether you’re inspired by the valor of Moshe Dayan, Ben Gurion, or Golda Meir, or the wisdom of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, or the strength of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, come dressed as your favorite hero for our Purim Carnival! Prizes will be awarded for the best hero costumes.

The festivities include hamantaschen decorating and mask-making with members of Congregation Or Atid, along with various crafts for children of all ages.

The Marjorie & David Arenstein Gymnasium will host the Avengers Moon Bounce (for children aged 5 and under) and an Astro Jump obstacle course. Older children (ages 8 and up) can engage in laser tag in the Sisisky Family Community Room. Additional entertainment includes clowns, face painting, and balloon animals.

Rabbi Sherry Grinsteiner of Congregation Or Atid will lead a Megillah reading at 12:15 p.m.

Guests are invited to join the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond in writing cards and letters to Israeli soldiers and displaced families.

The Selma & Jacob Brown Senior Lounge will provide a quiet space for those seeking respite from the excitement, ensuring inclusivity for all.

Delicious kosher hot dogs and hamburgers will be available for purchase from the Beth-El Men’s Club in the Israel November Auditorium.

Don’t forget to stop by The Hamantaschen Café in the Richard A. Arenstein Lobby for a taste of these traditional treats (quantities limited; first come, first served)!

At this Carnival, every attendee has the chance to be a hero. Join the community for a day of fun, celebration, and community spirit!

The community-wide Purim Celebration is supported by the Richmond Council of Jewish Educators (RCJE), a committee of the Jewish Community Federation of Richmond (JCFR).
